Gothic type is defined by contrast and drama โ dense black strokes, sharp angles and an unmistakable air of the dramatic. This generator focuses on the modern, aesthetic side of gothic: the blackletter alphabets (๐๐ฌ๐ฑ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ ) and their heavier bold cousins (๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐) that have become shorthand for dark-academia bios, band aesthetics and moody usernames across social media.
What makes a font 'gothic'
The word covers a family: tall, spiky, high-contrast letterforms that trace back to medieval manuscripts but now live mostly online. Standard fraktur is the lighter, more legible option; bold fraktur cranks up the weight for maximum darkness. If you want the gothic feel without going fully illegible, pairing a blackletter card with a simple frame like a cross keeps it striking but readable.
Three steps
- Type your name or phrase above.
- Choose light blackletter for legibility or bold blackletter for full drama.
- Copy it into your Instagram, TikTok, Discord or gaming profile.
Where it works
Blackletter Unicode pastes into Instagram bios and names, TikTok captions, Discord, Twitter/X and most game name fields. The one thing to watch: a handful of gothic letters (C, H, I, R, Z) use special historic code points, and very old devices occasionally substitute a plain letter. On any modern phone it renders exactly as shown.
The Unicode story
Unicode encodes two full blackletter alphabets โ 'Fraktur' (๐ at U+1D504) and 'Bold Fraktur' (๐ฌ at U+1D56C) โ inside the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, where they were added for mathematicians who use blackletter for certain symbols. We repurpose them for style. Copy a card and you copy those exact characters, styling and all.
